Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kefunova is a topical combination cream containing fluorouracil (5%) and calcipotriene (0.005%). It is developed and manufactured by SKNV, utilizing a patented combination technology licensed from Washington University in St. Louis. Kefunova is indicated for the treatment of actinic keratosis (AK) and superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC). The combination works synergistically: fluorouracil, a pyrimidine antagonist antimetabolite, induces immunogenic cell death and tumor-antigen release in sun-damaged cells, while calcipotriene, a synthetic vitamin D3 analog, stimulates thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP)-driven CD4+ T-cell infiltration to target and clear these abnormal cells. This dual mechanism allows for a significantly shorter treatment course (typically 4 days) compared to standard fluorouracil monotherapy (2 to 4 weeks), improving patient compliance and tolerability.
