Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fluprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It is structurally related to prednisolone but contains a fluorine atom at the 6-alpha position, which enhances its glucocorticoid activity. Fluprednisolone is approximately 2.5 times as potent as prednisolone and about 40 times as potent as cortisone in terms of anti-inflammatory effect. It is used primarily for the treatment of inflammatory and allergic conditions, as well as other diseases that respond to glucocorticoids, including certain skin diseases. The drug acts by binding to the cytoplasmic glucocorticoid receptor, modulating gene expression to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators[1][2][3][4][5][6].
