Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flurgat is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution containing the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) flurbiprofen and the fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic gatifloxacin. Developed by Optho Pharma, it is indicated for the treatment of bacterial eye infections (such as conjunctivitis) and the reduction of associated ocular inflammation, pain, and swelling. It is also used for pre- and post-operative prophylaxis and inflammation management in ophthalmic surgeries like cataract extraction. Flurbiprofen acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes to reduce prostaglandin synthesis, thereby mitigating pain and inflammation, while gatifloxacin targets bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV to inhibit bacterial replication.
