Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flurbiprofen axetil is a prodrug of flurbiprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) belonging to the propionic acid class. After administration, it is hydrolyzed by esterases in the blood to release active flurbiprofen. The active form inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis and exerting anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Flurbiprofen axetil has been investigated for its use in pain management, particularly perioperative pain and rheumatoid arthritis. It is formulated as an injectable preparation to improve solubility and pharmacokinetics compared to oral flurbiprofen[1][3][5].
