Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Flurimo is a muco-adhesive buccal tablet developed by Vectans Pharma for the treatment and prevention of oral mucositis, particularly in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. It utilizes the proprietary Lauriad technology, which allows the tablet to adhere to the gum or oral mucosa and provide a sustained, local release of the active ingredient, flurbiprofen. Flurbiprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins that contribute to the pain and ulceration associated with mucositis. By delivering the drug locally, Flurimo aims to maximize efficacy in the oral cavity while minimizing systemic side effects.
