flutemetamol

Flutemetamol is a radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of the brain to estimate β-amyloid neuritic plaque density in adult patients with cognitive impairment who are being evaluated for Alzheimer's disease or other causes of cognitive decline. After intravenous administration, it crosses the blood-brain barrier and binds selectively to β-amyloid plaques. The fluorine-18 isotope emits positrons detectable by PET scanning, allowing visualization of amyloid plaque distribution in the brain. Flutemetamol is not a therapeutic agent but an adjunctive diagnostic tool. It was developed and is manufactured by GE Healthcare[1][2][3][5][6].
