fluticasone

Fluticasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid available as two main esters—fluticasone propionate and fluticasone furoate. It is used in various formulations (inhalers, nasal sprays, topical creams) for the treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), allergic and non-allergic rhinitis, and corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses[4][5][7][8]. The drug acts primarily by binding to glucocorticoid receptors to produce potent anti-inflammatory effects. This action leads to the downregulation of multiple inflammatory mediators such as histamine, cytokines, leukotrienes, chemokines, prostaglandins, and tryptase[6]. Fluticasone interrupts both early- and late-phase allergic responses by controlling gene expression related to inflammation[6]. It was first approved in 1990 (propionate) and 2007 (furoate)[7].
