Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fluticasone furoate + vilanterol is a fixed-dose combination therapy developed by GSK for the once-daily maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It combines fluticasone furoate, a synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory activity via the glucocorticoid receptor, and vilanterol, an ultra-long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) that provides 24-hour bronchodilation. The medication is delivered via the Ellipta dry powder inhaler. It is specifically indicated for patients whose symptoms are not adequately controlled on a long-term asthma control medication or whose disease severity warrants initiation of treatment with both an inhaled corticosteroid and a LABA.
