Lugano is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) inhalation therapy developed by Ache Laboratorios Farmaceuticos S.A. for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. It combines fluticasone propionate, a synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory activity, and formoterol fumarate, a long-acting selective beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist (LABA) that induces bronchodilation. The product is administered via a dry powder inhaler using capsules containing the active ingredients. In clinical trials, such as the Phase III study NCT01393145, the combination demonstrated efficacy and safety comparable to other established ICS/LABA combinations like salmeterol/fluticasone in improving lung function and managing symptoms in patients with moderate-to-severe COPD.
