Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fluticasone propionate + formoterol fumarate (Dey formulation) is a nebulized fixed-dose combination therapy developed for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Developed by Dey Pharma (now part of Viatris), this product combines fluticasone propionate, a potent synthetic glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory properties, and formoterol fumarate, a long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (LABA) with rapid-onset bronchodilatory effects. Unlike the more common pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) or dry powder inhalers (DPIs), this specific formulation was designed as an inhalation suspension for delivery via a nebulizer. This delivery method is particularly relevant for COPD patients with low inspiratory flow or coordination difficulties. Fluticasone reduces airway inflammation by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, while formoterol relaxes airway smooth muscle by stimulating beta-2 receptors, together aiming to improve lung function and reduce exacerbations.
