Overview

Triple combination inhaler containing *fluticasone propionate* (an inhaled corticosteroid), *formoterol fumarate* (a long-acting beta-2 agonist), and *glycopyrronium bromide* (a long-acting muscarinic antagonist) developed for maintenance therapy in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and in some cases asthma[1][2][3]. The combination targets different mechanisms involved in bronchoconstriction and inflammation: fluticasone propionate reduces airway inflammation, formoterol fumarate provides bronchodilation through beta-2 adrenergic stimulation, and glycopyrronium bromide induces bronchodilation by blocking muscarinic receptors in airway smooth muscle[2][3]. This fixed-dose triple therapy is intended to improve lung function, reduce COPD exacerbations, and is often administered as a single dry powder inhaler (DPI) or metered dose inhaler (MDI)[1][2]. Clinical trials have shown this combination is non-inferior to established triple inhaler therapies, and it is associated with a significant improvement in lung function and patient-reported outcomes, with a safety profile similar to dual and triple therapies containing these agents individually[1][2]. Airz-FF is the first approved triple DPI with glycopyrronium in India[2].
