Overview

Fluticasone propionate + salmeterol + tiotropium is a triple combination therapy used in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and, less commonly, severe asthma. This regimen combines three agents with complementary mechanisms of action: - Fluticasone propionate is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces airway inflammation. - Salmeterol is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle to improve airflow. - Tiotropium is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) that blocks acetylcholine-mediated bronchoconstriction. The combination aims to maximize bronchodilation and anti-inflammatory effects, leading to improved lung function, reduced symptoms, and better quality of life for patients with moderate-to-severe COPD. Clinical studies have shown this triple therapy improves lung function more than dual regimens without increasing adverse events[1][2]. The individual components are marketed under various brand names such as Advair (fluticasone/salmeterol) and Spiriva (tiotropium), but fixed-dose triple combinations may be available under other brands depending on region.
