Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fluticasone propionate + simvastatin is a combination of a synthetic glucocorticoid (fluticasone propionate) and an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (simvastatin). Research suggests this combination may have synergistic effects in treating inflammatory airway diseases like asthma. The combination has been shown to significantly increase regulatory T cells (Treg) while reducing T helper 17 (Th17) cells to a greater extent than either medication alone. This effect is mediated through up-regulation of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase and IL-10, along with down-regulation of IL-6 and IL-23 expression in monocyte-derived dendritic cells. This combination may be particularly relevant for treating severe asthma with neutrophilic inflammation where Th17 cells are activated.
