Overview

Fluvoxamine + moclobemide is a combination of two antidepressant drugs used experimentally in the management of treatment-resistant depression and other psychiatric disorders. Fluvoxamine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases synaptic serotonin by inhibiting its reuptake into presynaptic neurons, while moclobemide is a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (RIMA/MAOI-A), which prevents the breakdown of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. The combination aims to enhance serotonergic neurotransmission through dual mechanisms. Clinical studies suggest this combination may be effective in refractory depression and generally well tolerated when carefully monitored, though there are concerns about potential for serotonergic toxicity. This regimen is not widely approved or recommended due to safety concerns and limited evidence[1][2][3][5].
