Overview

Fluzone High-Dose is a high-dose quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (HD-QIV) manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur. It is a split-virus biologic vaccine that contains 60 µg of hemagglutinin antigen from each of four influenza strains (two A and two B), which is four times the amount found in standard-dose vaccines. The vaccine is designed to improve immune protection in populations that typically exhibit suboptimal responses to standard vaccination, such as older adults and immunocompromised individuals. In clinical research led by Vanderbilt University Medical Center, it is being evaluated in lung transplant recipients to determine if the higher antigen concentration improves immunogenicity and safety compared to standard-dose vaccines in the context of chronic immunosuppression.
