Overview

Fluzone Intradermal Quadrivalent is an inactivated, quadrivalent influenza vaccine developed by Sanofi Pasteur for the prevention of influenza disease caused by influenza A subtype viruses and type B viruses. It contains hemagglutinin (HA) from four killed influenza virus strains: two influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B (one from each lineage, Victoria and Yamagata). Unlike standard intramuscular vaccines, it is administered intradermally using a specialized microinjection system with a 1.5 mm needle, delivering the vaccine into the dermal layer of the skin where immune cells are highly concentrated. It was FDA-approved in 2014 for use in adults aged 18 through 64 years.
