Overview
Fluzone Trivalent is an inactivated influenza vaccine indicated for active immunization against influenza disease caused by influenza A subtype viruses and type B virus contained in the vaccine. It works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies that help protect against influenza but does not prevent other respiratory infections. The vaccine contains three influenza virus strains (two A subtypes and one B type) that are selected annually based on recommendations from health authorities to match circulating strains for the upcoming flu season. For the 2024-2025 season, the vaccine has transitioned from a quadrivalent to a trivalent formulation, reflecting the removal of the B/Yamagata strain. Fluzone Trivalent is administered as an intramuscular injection and is approved for use in persons 6 months of age and older.
