Overview

fMLALV is a mitochondrial-derived N-formyl peptide that acts as a potent agonist of the formyl peptide receptor (FPR). In the context of high-grade glioblastoma, these peptides are released from necrotic tumor material and interact with FPR expressed on tumor cells to promote cell motility, growth, and angiogenesis. Research indicates that fMLALV induces rapid intracellular calcium mobilization, chemotaxis, and increased cell proliferation in glioblastoma cell lines like U87. Targeting the interaction between mitochondrial peptides like fMLALV and the FPR is being explored as a potential therapeutic strategy for malignant astrocytomas.
