Overview

FMP011 is a recombinant protein vaccine candidate designed to prevent malaria caused by *Plasmodium falciparum*. Developed by the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), the vaccine consists of a nearly full-length circumsporozoite protein (CSP) expressed in *Escherichia coli*. CSP is the dominant surface protein of the malaria sporozoite and is critical for the parasite's entry into hepatocytes. FMP011 is typically formulated with the Army Liposome Formulation containing QS-21 (ALFQ) to enhance the immune response, specifically targeting the induction of high-titer antibodies and cellular immunity against the pre-erythrocytic stage of the parasite.
