FMP2.1 + AS01B is a combination malaria vaccine candidate composed of the recombinant protein antigen FMP2.1, which is based on amino acids 83–531 of the apical membrane antigen 1 (AMA-1) from the 3D7 clone of Plasmodium falciparum, and the proprietary adjuvant system AS01B[3][6][1]. The AMA-1 antigen aims to induce an immune response against blood-stage P. falciparum parasites, while the liposome-based adjuvant system AS01B contains two immunostimulants: 3-O-desacyl-4′-monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL), a TLR4 ligand derived from Salmonella minnesota, and QS21, a purified saponin extract from Quillaja saponaria[4][1]. This combination is designed to enhance both humoral and cellular immune responses to improve protection against malaria infection.
