FMT-c Lactobacillus is an investigational microbiome-based therapy developed by researchers at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) for the treatment of recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI). The formulation consists of fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) material derived from healthy donor stool, which is then enriched with three specific species of Lactobacillus. Delivered orally via capsules, the therapy is designed to restore intestinal microbial diversity and resolve dysbiosis more effectively than standard FMT by leveraging the synergistic effects of the donor's complex microbiota and the added probiotic strains. Clinical studies, including a randomized pilot trial (NCT03804736), have evaluated its efficacy in achieving clinical resolution of rCDI and restoring the gut microbiome's genomic profile.
