Overview
FMT Capsule DE is an investigational oral fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) therapy developed by the University of Wisconsin, Madison. It consists of capsules containing processed fecal microbiota from healthy donors, intended to restore gut microbial diversity and provide colonization resistance. The drug is specifically being evaluated for the decolonization of multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs), including Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) and Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), in the gastrointestinal tract. By re-establishing a healthy microbiome, FMT Capsule DE aims to prevent healthcare-associated infections and reduce the reservoir of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in colonized individuals.
