Overview

Fobitasvir is a small molecule direct-acting antiviral (DAA) developed by Ginkgo Tree Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It acts as an inhibitor of the HCV non-structural protein 5A (NS5A), a multifunctional protein required for viral RNA replication and the assembly of new virus particles. By binding to NS5A, fobitasvir disrupts the formation of the replication complex and prevents the production of infectious progeny. It is typically developed and administered as part of an all-oral, interferon-free combination regimen, often paired with the NS3/4A protease inhibitor furaprevir, to target multiple stages of the viral lifecycle and minimize the emergence of resistance.
