Fobitaver is a small molecule direct-acting antiviral (DAA) agent that acts as an inhibitor of the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) non-structural protein 5A (NS5A). Developed by Changzhou Yinsheng Pharmaceutical, it is being investigated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection. NS5A is a multifunctional zinc-binding phosphoprotein essential for HCV RNA replication and virion assembly. By binding to NS5A, fobitaver disrupts the formation of the viral replication complex and the assembly of new viral particles, thereby reducing the viral load in infected patients. In clinical development, fobitaver is typically evaluated in combination with other DAAs, such as the NS3/4A protease inhibitor anfehuowei (YNS-12), to provide a comprehensive treatment regimen targeting multiple stages of the HCV lifecycle.
