Overview
Fogliptin benzoate is a novel, highly selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor developed by Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It functions by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which is responsible for the rapid degradation of the incretin hormones glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By maintaining higher levels of these hormones, fogliptin benzoate enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppresses glucagon release from alpha cells, thereby improving glycemic control. The drug received marketing approval from the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in June 2024.
