Folate receptor alpha (FRα) antibodies are monoclonal antibodies designed to target the alpha isoform of the folate receptor, a cell-surface glycoprotein that is highly overexpressed in several epithelial malignancies, including ovarian, endometrial, and non-small cell lung cancers. In normal tissues, FRα expression is limited and restricted to the apical surfaces of certain epithelia, making it an attractive target for oncology. These antibodies function by binding to the receptor to mediate tumor cell death through antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) or by acting as the targeting component for antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and radiopharmaceuticals. Additionally, specific clones (such as BN 3.2) are utilized as diagnostic tools in immunohistochemistry (IHC) to assess FRα expression levels in patient biopsies, facilitating the selection of candidates for FRα-targeted therapies.
