Overview

FT-NP Dtxl is a folate-targeted lipid-polymer nanoparticle formulation of the taxane chemotherapy agent docetaxel. Developed by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, this nanoparticle delivery system is designed to improve the therapeutic index of docetaxel by utilizing folate ligands to target folate receptor-overexpressing tumor cells. The formulation provides controlled release of its docetaxel cargo, which has been shown in preclinical studies to result in a differential cellular response compared to small-molecule docetaxel, particularly at sub-therapeutic doses. By enhancing tumor-specific delivery and providing sustained drug exposure, FT-NP Dtxl aims to overcome the limitations of conventional docetaxel, such as the need for toxic excipients like polysorbate 80 and off-target systemic toxicity.
