Overview

FOLFOX + sunitinib is a combination regimen consisting of the chemotherapy protocol FOLFOX (folinic acid, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin) plus the targeted therapy sunitinib. - **FOLFOX** is a standard chemotherapy regimen primarily used for colorectal cancer. It combines three drugs: - Folinic acid (leucovorin): enhances the effectiveness of fluorouracil. - Fluorouracil (5-FU): an antimetabolite that inhibits DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells. - Oxaliplatin: a platinum-based agent that causes DNA crosslinking and apoptosis in cancer cells[1][2][4][7]. - **Sunitinib** is an oral small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting multiple receptors including vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs), platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFRs), KIT, FLT3, RET, and CSF1R. It inhibits tumor angiogenesis and cell proliferation. This combination aims to leverage both cytotoxic effects from chemotherapy and antiangiogenic/targeted effects from sunitinib for enhanced anticancer activity.
