Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Folic acid-indocyanine green (Folate-ICG) is a tumor-targeted near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent imaging agent. It consists of folic acid, which acts as a targeting ligand for the folate receptor alpha (FRα) overexpressed on various cancer cells, covalently conjugated to the near-infrared fluorophore indocyanine green (ICG). Upon administration, the conjugate selectively binds to folate receptors on tumor cells and is internalized via receptor-mediated endocytosis, allowing for high-contrast, real-time intraoperative fluorescence imaging of FRα-positive malignancies. While closely related to the approved agent pafolacianine (which uses an ICG-like dye), the direct folic acid-ICG conjugate is primarily utilized in preclinical research.
