Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Folivance is a prescription-grade medical food and nutritional supplement developed by Blue Heron Pharmaceuticals. It is formulated as an oral capsule containing a combination of bioactive B-vitamins, typically including L-methylfolate (as levomefolate calcium), methylcobalamin (Vitamin B12), and pyridoxal-5-phosphate (Vitamin B6). Folivance is indicated for the clinical dietary management of patients with suboptimal folate levels, which may be associated with conditions such as depression, hyperhomocysteinemia, or increased nutritional requirements during pregnancy. By providing the bioactive form of folate, it bypasses the metabolic steps required for folic acid activation (specifically the MTHFR enzyme pathway), supporting essential cellular processes including DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and neurotransmitter regulation.
