This is a personalized, patient-specific idiotype vaccine developed by the Clinica Universidad de Navarra for the treatment of follicular lymphoma. The vaccine is composed of the unique immunoglobulin idiotype (Id) protein derived from the patient's own malignant B cells, which serves as a tumor-specific antigen. To enhance immunogenicity, the idiotype protein is chemically conjugated to the carrier protein Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) and administered alongside the cytokine Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF) as an adjuvant. The mechanism involves stimulating the patient's immune system to recognize and attack B cells expressing the specific idiotype, thereby targeting the lymphoma while sparing normal B cells. It is typically investigated in patients who have achieved a complete response following chemotherapy or autologous stem cell transplant to eliminate residual disease and prevent relapse.
