Overview

Follitropin is a recombinant form of human follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), a glycoprotein hormone produced by the pituitary gland. It acts as an agonist at the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor, stimulating ovarian follicular growth in women and spermatogenesis in men. In clinical practice, it is primarily used to treat infertility—specifically to induce ovulation in women with ovulatory dysfunction and to stimulate multiple follicular development for assisted reproductive technologies such as IVF. In men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, it is used to induce sperm production, typically after pretreatment with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Follitropin is administered via subcutaneous injection and may be combined with other hormones depending on the fertility protocol[1][2][3][5][6].
