Overview

Follitropin beta is a recombinant form of human follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), produced using genetically engineered Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. It consists of two non-covalently linked glycoprotein subunits (alpha and beta). As a gonadotropin, it stimulates ovarian follicular growth in women with ovulatory dysfunction and promotes spermatogenesis in men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. In women, it is used to induce ovulation and as part of assisted reproductive technology procedures such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), often in combination with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). In men, it is used after hCG pretreatment to increase sperm production. The drug replaces natural FSH when endogenous levels are insufficient for normal reproductive function[1][2][5][8].
