Overview

Follitropin delta is a recombinant human follicle-stimulating hormone (rFSH) produced in the human fetal retinal cell line PER.C6 using recombinant DNA technology. Developed by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, it is the first rFSH to be derived from a human cell line, which results in a glycosylation profile distinct from CHO-derived FSH (such as follitropin alfa or beta). Specifically, follitropin delta contains both α2,3- and α2,6-linked sialic acid, leading to a lower clearance rate and higher biopotency in humans. It is indicated for controlled ovarian stimulation in women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) programs, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The drug is typically administered using an individualized dosing algorithm based on a patient's body weight and serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels to optimize the number of oocytes retrieved while reducing the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
