Overview

Follitropin epsilon is a fully human, glyco-optimized recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) developed for ovarian stimulation in assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization. Unlike other recombinant FSH products produced in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) or human fetal retinal cells, follitropin epsilon is manufactured using a human blood cell line derived from a myeloid leukemia cell line, resulting in unique glycosylation patterns that may affect its pharmacodynamics and potency. It acts by binding to the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor on ovarian follicles, stimulating their growth and maturation. Clinical studies have shown that follitropin epsilon can induce similar or greater ovarian responses compared to standard doses of other r-hFSH products like follitropin alfa[1][3][4][5][6]. The drug has not yet been marketed and remains under clinical investigation.
