FOLR1 SIR-T is an investigational cell therapy being developed by Angeles Therapeutics for the treatment of solid tumors expressing Folate Receptor Alpha (FOLR1). The therapy utilizes the company's proprietary Synthetic Immune Receptor (SIR) technology to engineer T-cells. Unlike traditional Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CARs), SIRs are designed to mimic the natural T-cell receptor (TCR) complex more closely by incorporating multiple subunits of the TCR complex, which may lead to more physiological T-cell activation, improved persistence, and reduced exhaustion. FOLR1 is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored membrane protein that is highly overexpressed in several epithelial-derived mucosal tumors, including ovarian, lung, and breast cancers, while having limited expression in normal tissues. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
