FOLR1 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the FOLR1 gene, which encodes Folate Receptor Alpha (FRα). FRα is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored protein that is frequently overexpressed in epithelial malignancies, such as ovarian and renal cell carcinomas, while remaining largely absent in normal tissues. Research conducted by Morphotek demonstrated that siRNA-mediated knockdown of FOLR1 significantly impairs the proliferative capacity of cancer cells, even in cisplatin-resistant models. These findings suggest that FRα promotes tumor growth through mechanisms that may be independent of its canonical role in folate transport, making it a critical target for therapeutic intervention.
