Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Foly-5 is a branded generic pharmaceutical product developed and manufactured by Kaiser Pharmaceutical. It contains 5 mg of folic acid, a synthetic form of the water-soluble B-vitamin folate (Vitamin B9). Folic acid is essential for the synthesis of nucleosides, the methylation of DNA, and the metabolism of amino acids. It plays a critical role in rapid cell division and growth, particularly during infancy and pregnancy. Foly-5 is indicated for the treatment of megaloblastic and macrocytic anemias due to folate deficiency and is used prophylactically during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida. It is also used in patients with malabsorption syndromes or those taking folate-depleting medications.
