Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fomitopsis pinicola chloroform extract (FPKc) is a research-grade natural product extract derived from the Basidiomycota fungus *Fomitopsis pinicola*, a species widely recognized in traditional Chinese medicine. The extract is characterized by a significant concentration of ergosterol (approximately 105 µg/mg), which is considered a key bioactive component. FPKc has been primarily investigated for its anti-inflammatory and antineoplastic properties. In preclinical models, it has demonstrated protective effects against dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis and has shown the ability to selectively inhibit the viability and migration of SW-480 colorectal cancer cells. Its anti-migratory effects are associated with the downregulation of matrix metalloproteinases MMP-2 and MMP-9, while its anti-tumor activity is linked to the induction of apoptosis.
