Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fomukal is a supersaturated calcium phosphate oral rinse indicated for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis, a common and painful complication in oncology patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The product is typically supplied as two separate aqueous solutions—one containing calcium salts (such as calcium chloride) and the other containing phosphate salts (such as sodium phosphate)—which are mixed immediately before use to form a supersaturated solution. This solution mimics the ionic composition of natural saliva, acting as a lubricant to protect the oral mucosa and maintain the integrity of the oral cavity. By providing high concentrations of calcium and phosphate ions, Fomukal helps to alleviate pain and reduce the severity of mucosal inflammation. It is marketed by Vipharm and is part of their oncology supportive care portfolio.
