Overview

Fonakizumab (QL1604) is a recombinant humanized IgG1 kappa monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin-17A (IL-17A), a key pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, particularly spondyloarthropathies. Developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical, fonakizumab binds with high affinity to IL-17A, preventing its interaction with the IL-17 receptor complex and subsequently inhibiting the release of downstream pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. In April 2024, the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) approved fonakizumab (brand name Sailiqi) for the treatment of adults with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy. The drug is also being evaluated in clinical trials for other indications, including a Phase 4 study for psoriatic arthritis and Phase 3 studies for ankylosing spondylitis.
