Overview

Foreskin fibroblast (neonatal) refers to primary human dermal fibroblasts isolated from the dermis of neonatal foreskin tissue. These cells are used in both research and clinical settings, most notably as a component of advanced wound care products such as Dermagraft and Gintuit. As a cell therapy or biologic device, they are indicated for the treatment of full-thickness diabetic foot ulcers that extend through the dermis but do not expose tendon, muscle, joint capsule, or bone[1][2]. Foreskin-derived neonatal fibroblasts secrete extracellular matrix proteins and growth factors that support tissue repair and regeneration. They can differentiate into various cell types and display mesenchymal stromal cell characteristics[5][6]. In addition to wound healing applications, these cells are widely used in research on skin aging, gene delivery, pathogen response studies, regenerative medicine product development (including exosomes/micro-vesicles), cosmetics testing, and as feeder layers for pluripotent stem cell culture[3][4][5][8].
