Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Foret is an inhaled therapeutic formulation developed by the Fundación Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Santiago de Compostela (FIDIS) in collaboration with the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). The drug candidate was developed as part of the FORET project (Formulación de un tratamiento inhalado para el control de infecciones respiratorias víricas) to address severe respiratory viral infections, including SARS-CoV-2. The formulation consists of a combination of pulmonary surfactants and antiviral agents (such as remdesivir). The pulmonary surfactant component serves as a biophysical vehicle that enhances the spreading and penetration of the antiviral drug into the deep lung and alveolar spaces. This localized delivery approach aims to achieve high therapeutic concentrations at the site of infection while minimizing systemic exposure and associated side effects, particularly in the context of viral pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
