FORMOSA-1117 is a preclinical-stage small molecule antibiotic being developed by AMS BioteQ. It is designed to target multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections, including Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE), Vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA), heterogeneous Vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (hVISA), Carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli (CR-EC), and Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-KP). The drug acts by inhibiting DNA polymerase and DNA gyrase, essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication and transcription. This dual-targeting approach is intended to overcome existing resistance mechanisms and provide a new therapeutic option for severe bacterial infections.
