Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Formoterol + Aerochamber Plus refers to the long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist (LABA) formoterol fumarate administered via a pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) in conjunction with the Aerochamber Plus spacer device. Formoterol acts as a potent bronchodilator by selectively stimulating beta-2 receptors in the lungs, leading to the relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle and improved airflow. The use of the Aerochamber Plus spacer is intended to optimize drug delivery to the lower airways and reduce oropharyngeal deposition, which is particularly beneficial for pediatric patients and those with poor inhaler technique. This specific drug-device combination has been evaluated by Chiesi Farmaceutici in clinical pharmacology studies, often as a comparator to fixed-dose combinations like beclometasone/formoterol (CHF 1535), to characterize the pharmacokinetic profile and systemic availability of formoterol in asthmatic populations.
