Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FF MDI (PT005) is a formulation of formoterol fumarate, a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA), delivered via a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) using Pearl Therapeutics' proprietary Aerosphere delivery technology. This technology utilizes porous, low-density phospholipid microparticles as a carrier to ensure stable and uniform delivery of the active ingredient throughout the respiratory tract. Developed by Pearl Therapeutics (now a subsidiary of AstraZeneca), FF MDI was primarily investigated as a monotherapy comparator in the PINNACLE clinical trial program (including PINNACLE 1, 2, and 3). This program supported the development and approval of the dual bronchodilator Bevespi Aerosphere (glycopyrrolate/formoterol fumarate). FF MDI is intended for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), where it acts by selectively stimulating beta2-adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, resulting in bronchodilation and improved lung function.
