Formula of Purging Intestine and Draining Lung is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal decoction developed by the Secondary Hospital Affiliated to Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is specifically designed for the treatment of acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The therapeutic rationale is based on the TCM theory of the interior-exterior relationship between the lung and the large intestine, where purging the intestine is believed to help drain heat or fluid from the lungs.
