Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Forsythia suspensa root extract is a botanical extract obtained from the roots of *Forsythia suspensa* (Thunb.) Vahl, a shrub used traditionally in East Asian medicine. It contains a diverse range of phytochemicals, including lignans, phenylethanoid glycosides, flavonoids, and volatile compounds, with composition varying based on extraction method[2]. Research indicates that the extract has pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, and possibly immune-modulatory effects. In vitro and in vivo studies suggest that ethanolic extract of Forsythia suspensa root can induce apoptosis in esophageal carcinoma cells, possibly by regulating apoptotic proteins, indicating a mechanism related to the modulation of cell death pathways[3]. Traditional uses include treatment of fever, jaundice, and inflammatory conditions.
