Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Forsythiae fructus is the dried fruit of the plant Forsythia suspensa, widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is known for its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidant properties and is traditionally used to clear heat and detoxify the body. It is commonly applied in conditions such as airway illnesses (e.g., bronchiolitis), fever, sore throat, tonsillitis, skin infections (erysipelas), and inflammatory diseases. The active compounds include forsythiasides (notably A and B), phillyrin and phillygenin. Mechanistically it may inhibit NF-κB signaling pathways reducing inflammation and modulate immune responses including induction of interferons to exert antiviral effects. Clinical evidence remains limited but preclinical studies support its pharmacological activities.[1][2][3][5][6]
