Overview

Forsythin (also known as Phillyrin) is a bioactive lignan glycoside extracted from the fruit of the medicinal plant Forsythia suspensa. It is considered an active ingredient in traditional herbal medicine and has been investigated for its potential anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. Preclinical studies suggest that forsythin may modulate several cellular signaling pathways related to inflammation and immune response, including PI3K/Akt/mTOR and JAK/STAT pathways[3]. Clinical development in China has reached phase 2 trials for indications such as common cold, influenza, fever, and pharyngitis[4]. The precise mechanism of action remains unclear; no specific molecular targets have been conclusively identified.
